The Akane apple is an early season apple with round to conical medium-sized fruit. It has a green-yellow skin covered with a bright red color.  Its flesh is dense, firm, and white with a good balance of sweet and sharp flavours. Akane was developed in Japan in the 1930s as a cross of the English early variety Worcester Pearmain and American heritage apple variety Jonathan.
Akane has moderately good disease resistance.
