Description:
The Akane apple is an early season apple with round to conical medium-sized fruit. It has a green-yellow skin covered with a bright red color. Its flesh is dense, firm, and white with a good balance of sweet and sharp flavours. Akane was developed in Japan in the 1930s as a cross of the English early variety Worcester Pearmain and American heritage apple variety Jonathan.
Akane has moderately good disease resistance.
Uses:Akane is good eaten fresh and can also be used for baking or juicing.
Harvest:
Early, late August to mid September
Pollinators:Ginger Gold, Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji.
White flowering crabapples are also a good pollinator fo this variety.
