'Rhode Island Greening'

Description: 

Originating in the United States in the 1600's this apple was at one time one of the most popular apples. Globe shaped green  apple which turns yellowish with a pink blush (on the sun exposed side) when it ripens. Flesh is crisp and quite tart. Stores well.

 

Uses: 

Ideal cooking apple, cider.

 

Harvest:

Late: October.

 

Pollinators: 

Akane, Cortland, Cox's Orange Pippin, Crimson Crisp, Golden Russet, Macoun.

 

White flowering crabapples are also good pollinisers for this variety.
